Happy Birthday Freddy!

After only 41 weeks and 41 hours of labor . . .
Frederick Riggs Duberstein was born 9 days after his due date on January 25th, 2007 at 7:17 am. He had a long hard road to get here, starting on Tuesday afternoon of the 23rd, but he was well worth the wait. We arrived at the hospital about 3pm for an ultrasound and they admitted us because the fluid levels in the amniotic sac were very low. Nina started on pitocin that afternoon, but they backed off to let her sleep from about midnight to six (thank goodness!!).

On Wednesday morning things got started again, but progressed very slowly. Nina and little Freddy worked all through the night, and 41 hours after admittance, an epidural, 4 hours of pushing, and a vacuum extraction later, they were both resting comfortably. We are so grateful to our tireless midwives, our amazing doula Wendy, and the knockout nursing staff at UNC without whom the Freddy's birth would have gone VERY differently.

We could not be more in love with our son. Thanks to everyone for all of the love and support we've been given.

Now it's time for some serious digital picture-taking!

absolutely wonderful news - congratulations to you both, er, to all three of you, and your families! i've got some lullaby ramones tunes almost ready to go, and i'm doing what i can now to overturn Wellesley's 'women only' status in order to keep a warm seat for 'ready steady Freddy'...

So, it appears as though you decided to not name your son after me? That is okay, he is beautiful . . . Congrats!

Congratulations Nina and John;
The pictures are gorgeous - that means the boy must be, too. I can't wait to meet him. You both look so calm and loving. Your family appears as though you have always been together. I know Jan and Peter are over the moon.
What a wonderful presence in the world.
Welcome, Freddy.

All the best to you all ways
Love,
Julie
